Isla Contoy Mexico
Island of the birds! Isla Contoy is in the State of Quintana Roo located at the confluence of the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 30 kilometers north of Isla Mujeres. The island is only 8.5-Km in length and has a surface area of 317 hectares. Isla Contoy is considered the most important nesting place of sea birds in all of the Mexican Caribbean. As it turns out, this was not so much about the birds as it was about the isolation of this beautiful 'south pacific' like island. No electricity except solar powered batteries, no cell phone coverage. You were truly isolated from the world. It was lined with long sandy beaches & turquoise water on the west side and rocky cliffs & deep blue seas on the east.
